The Award in Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees using a Chainsaw brings together the older qualifications CS34 Award to Sever Individual Windblown Trees and CS35 Award to Sever Multiple Windblown Trees.

Fallen or part fallen trees require you to understand the dangers involved and be able to read the stresses and strains these types of trees have and without experience, these become even more dangerous.

Please note this course is physical demanding and requires the carrying and movement of equipment in a woodland / forest environment.

Entry Requirements:

  • The prerequisites for this course are the 201 & 202 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (CS30), 203 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm (CS31) or Award in Ground Based Chainsaw Operation (Combined CS30 & CS31). Plus the 301 Award in Felling and Processing Trees Over 380mm (CS32)
  • We require a completed enrolment form
  • Copy of suitable ID
  • Payment of the course fee


Course content:

  • Safe working procedures & risk assessments
  • Comply with relevant legislation
  • Assessing lying, windblown and broken timber, deciding on appropriate action
  • Prepare the equipment for use ensuring the safety of yourself, other people and the environment
  • Operate a hand winch to control movement of root plates according to instructions
  • Sever a wind-blown or uprooted tree using appropriate techniques
  • Root plates leaning forward and backwards
  • Restrain the root plate
  • Undertake a range of arboricultural operations without risk to yourself, other people and the environment
